Nestled in the semi-rural area of Colehill, the brief demanded a pair of contemporary residences that reflect modern living preferences. Commissioned by Portus Homes, the houses were to provide privacy, optimise natural light, and establish a strong connection to the outdoors while addressing the complexities of the sloping topography.

The stacked cantilevered volumes provide shelter to the entryway, whilst demonstrating the project team and client’s aspiration for a distinct and unique architectural form. The juxtaposition of solid masonry and lightweight timber cladding narrates a story of balance and contrast. Double-height voids, filled with natural light, create dynamic spatial experiences.

The heavy masonry walls act as anchors, shaping the spatial organisation while fostering a sense of permanence and connection to the surrounding context. The dwellings are articulated to respect human scale, with open-plan living spaces which respond to contemporary ideals.
