Edwardian Inspired Townhouses in Conservation Area

Set within the heart of Dorchester’s Conservation Area, this project introduces four elegant townhouses that draw upon the rich architectural heritage of the surrounding Edwardian terraced streets. Granted planning consent under delegated powers, the development blends traditional design cues with contemporary spatial arrangements, respecting its historical context while catering to modern lifestyles.

The three-storey homes are proportioned to align with the scale of the surrounding terraced houses. Single-story rear additions provide additional space while maintaining the privacy and intimacy of the rear gardens. Features such as arched entrances, bay windows, and brick banding are reimagined to create a sense of continuity while offering subtle refinements.

Traditional red and buff brick dominate the facades, complemented by timber-framed casement windows and slate-effect roofing. These materials were chosen to echo the local vernacular while ensuring durability and low maintenance.

Traditional construction techniques were employed, with a focus on craftsmanship to achieve high-quality finishes. Collaboration with consultants, including Darryl Howells Planning Consultancy and Richard Nicholson Arboricultural Planning Consultant, ensured the scheme adhered to planning and environmental requirements.
