The pavilions are designed to blend with their surroundings, with living roofs introduced to enhance biodiversity and allow the buildings to blend seamlessly with the broader Dorset landscape. The use of slim-profiled Shou Sugi Ban timber cladding set against wide-format glazing creates spaces which respond to views and orientation, while the use of dark stained cladding references the ‘Black Barn’ which has been seen across the county for centuries.

The project's commitment to sustainability is further evidenced by its adherence to Passive House Standards. Each pavilion will be highly insulated, ensuring energy efficiency and a reduced carbon footprint.

The success of this project is a testament to the importance of using an architect. Through detailed discussions with the council's Conservation Officer, DMW Architects were able to secure planning consent shortly after a positive pre-application consultation. This engagement process allowed for a design that respects current planning policy, while also delivering on the client's vision for beautiful, sustainable buildings.

With construction set to commence later this year (2023), the Eco Pavilions will make a clear statement of how Brownfield sites can be redeveloped in a positive and sensitive way, which is opposite to a large number of developments (across the county) which have no design or sustainable credentials.
