Working closely with our client, we explored a series of plan and massing options which informed the external architectural language.

The property is set below mature oak trees and render was discounted at an early stage. Face brickwork was chosen not only for its tonal colours but also its longterm durability.

An interesting aspect of the project is the SIPs (Structurally Insulated Panels) construction, which is finished in brick slips. Standard construction would have been blockwork, cavity, then external face brickwork and this was discussed and thermally modelled, in order to understand not only build cost but also the final thermal performance of the structure.

The SIPs option acclerated the build significantly and insured exceptional thermal performance. The final challenge was to set the building out in a precise fashion in order that the brick slips would read exactly as though it was standard brickwork, laid in the traditional method.

Rainwater goods were concealed throughout and bespoke detailing was employed in order that the house reads as a well-built townhouse with elegant proportions and simple, crisp detailing.

Do you have a project in mind or would you like to understand more about the architectural process? We would be delighted to hear from you.
