A key feature of the site is the presence of a Victorian Crinkle-Crankle garden wall, which provided a unique starting point for the design. This historical element is not only preserved but celebrated, serving as a backbone to the new dwelling.

The existing wall encloses the main south-facing amenity with large format glazing, linking the main kitchen and dining area to this space. A new spine wall has then been introduced, which runs parallel with the main circulation route providing an efficient and interesting service space.

Principal rooms are set directly from this corridor, maximising floor area and outlook across the rolling Dorset hills.

The home incorporates passive solar heating, with expansive glazing for winter solar gain and overhanging eaves to mitigate summer overheating. A biodiverse green roof enhances thermal insulation while rainwater harvesting systems irrigate the gardens, while photovoltaic panels discreetly integrated into the roof generate renewable energy.
