Set in a rural context, the barn’s original structure benefits from a peaceful atmosphere and natural light.

Externally, the original face brickwork has been retained with existing openings reused wherever possible. Double glazed doors with sliding shutters address the main service space which is double height with a mezzanine viewing platform set over.

This was one of the first projects on the Harbour View Crematorium site, which served the community well prior to the construction of the Longbarrow (designed by DMW’s Sean Daly for Western Design Architects) and has continued to, more recently, offer a different scale of building with a contrasting and quite distinct architectural character.

More recently, DMW has completed the conversion of an existing cottage (Randall’s Hill Farmhouse) together with an adjacent garage block to produce a series of linked buildings providing a gathering point prior to the service and a light and bright function room which opens out to an existing mature orchard.

DMW are committed to the preservation, renovation and conversion of existing buildings, not only to preserve their all-important history but also to convert and change them in a way that accords with modern standards and requirements.

Do you have a project in mind or would you like to understand more about the architectural process? We would be delighted to hear from you.
