Albert Road Sacred Chapel

A space crafted for stillness and reflection

Nestled within a mature walled garden, the Jewellery Box Chapel is a contemplative space that draws inspiration from the warmth and simplicity of Scandinavian design. Enclosed by slender timber fins, the chapel blurs boundaries between structure and landscape, creating a soft and ever-changing play of light and shadow throughout the day.

The fins serve as the primary structure, with full height frameless glazing set between. The result is a space that has a continuous connection to the landscape with a distinct and every-changing character on the east and west elevations.

Set at the end of the space large format sliding doors create a framed picture window to the defined landscape beyond. We have introduced water around the structure (a floating island) which terminates with a contemplative platform, which can be used before or after the ceremony to meet and reflect.

and reflect.

A restrained palette of materials; timber, glass and concrete has been used in order to create a timeless place, which evokes a sense of calm and reflection and references religious architecture seen widely in the UK.
