DMW Chartered Architects worked in collaboration with a consortium formed of the current tenant of the Beach House Café and owners of beach huts on Mudeford Spit, to design a replacement Beach Cafe for this popular and sensitive site.
The brief was to create a simple, elegant replacement building that would be appropriate in terms of aesthetics, function and budget, but above all else that it would be appropriate for the sensitive site.
The concept seeks to replicate the numerous beach hut buildings lined up on this sand spit, drawing on the geometry, scale, height and rhythm of their design. The new café will have a strong relationship to its immediate neighbours, and will present a congruous and characteristic form when viewed from the surrounding Green Belt and SSSI.
