Reinvigoration of local Church School with Listed Status

Located in a quintessentially British square, the St Peter's Church School conversion project revitalises a Grade II Listed former school and music venue in Ashley Cross, Poole, into a vibrant residential and commercial development. Much-loved by locals, the positioning of the dwellings benefits from the hive of activity centred around cafes, shops and the church at its core.

Close collaboration with the conservation officer at the pre-application stage was key to navigating the complexities of the site. Every design choice was carefully considered to enhance the historic fabric as opposed to detracting from it. The result is a sensitive and thoughtful conversion that includes nine residential units and a commercial space.

The project paid attention to the original facing bricks of the historic structures. These bricks were uncovered and painstakingly refurbished, preserving the tangible essence of the site’s past and ensuring its continuity in the new design. The newly created ancillary cottages form a charming courtyard, framing the listed buildings and offering a picturesque view of the converted school.

This project exemplifies a commitment to balancing the preservation of historical architecture with the demands of modern living. The St Peter’s Church School conversion is more than a development; it is a celebration of heritage and a thoughtfully crafted space for future residents.
