Pub Conversion and New Build Development

Located in Pimperne, Dorset, this project involves the sensitive transformation of a historic pub, the Farquharson Arms, into a multi-residential development.

At the heart of the project is the sensitive conversion of the former pub into two homes. Our challenge lay in maintaining the character and dominance building, a landmark that has served as a keystone of the local landscape. Its transformation demanded more than just a simple 'Pub Conversion Change of use'; it required a respectful nod to its heritage while providing modern homes for future generations.

Adding to the complexity was the renovation and conversion of the adjacent brick stable building as an independent dwelling.

To finish, we added a brick and slate roof house at the rear of the site, a modern contrast to the existing structures, while still echoing the local architectural vernacular.

We negotiated significant level changes across the site, which allowed us to introduce a variety of amenities, including an enclosed courtyard on the ground floor and a first-floor link from the master bedroom to a raised amenity at the rear.

The existing hard standing pub car park will be transformed into a green amenity serving the dwellings, delivering tangible ecological benefits. This element not only helped maintain the green backdrop of the Cranborne Chase AONB but also preserved the captivating views through the site to the landscape behind.
