Randalls Hill Farmhouse
Orchard Cottage Conversion
The Orchard Cottage Conversion transforms a semi-derelict rural property into a peaceful remembrance space, uniting traditional charm with modern architecture. Commissioned by Tapper Funeral Services, the brief was to sensitively convert and expand the existing cottage, creating a light-filled remembrance space, which relates to the orchard garden in which it is set.

Retaining the cottage’s traditional frontage, the scheme introduces a contrasting glazed extension, appearing as a light, contemporary box that gently touches the historic fabric, creating a distinct contrast between past and present.
An adjacent garage was repurposed into a vaulted meeting space, which serves The Barn (an intimate service chapel). As a result, the three buildings, which are defined by an external courtyard space provide an important and distinct function prior to, during and after the funeral service.
DMW provided full architectural and interior design services, working closely with our client to deliver a thoughtful, low-impact conversion as part of the wider Harbour View Crematorium offering.
