Rommany Road
Charming South London Reconfiguration and Extension
Commissioned by a private client, the Rommany Road Project presented DMW with a familiar yet demanding typology: the Victorian terraced house.
The brief was direct - to unlock the potential of the existing home through considered spatial reconfiguration and a modest extension, all while preserving the charm of the original historical architecture.

The rear addition sits as a low-slung volume at garden level, maintaining the massing hierarchy of the terrace while offering a refined counterpoint in detail and materiality. Within the extension a series of steel beams, required to support the retained structure above, have been elegantly disguised within a rhythm of recessed coffers, creating a ceiling that feels sculpted rather than compromised. Light from the rooflights filters through these new forms, generating shadows that animate the space throughout the day.
The internal programme was restructured to enhance flow, storage, and flexibility, ensuring that every square metre was maximised. The adjustments provide a more intuitive layout across the home’s levels, resulting in a plan that better supports the rhythms of contemporary family life.
