Roselawn
A Tranquil Low Profile Private Residence
Nestled in the Greenbelt of rural Dorset, this minimalist home finds itself surrounded by open fields and an ancient woodland, offering a tranquil and serene setting. The design of the house is rooted in a "yin-yang" geometry, where two volumes with opposing orientations are positioned around a central open-plan living space. This approach creates a layout, zoned around access, views, amenities, and accommodation, all while establishing connections to the natural surroundings.

Linear walls serve as guiding elements, marking the distinction between private and shared spaces. These walls rise above door height, allowing for top-lit windows that bathe the ancillary areas in natural light. At the heart of the design, a bronze-finished framework supports the elegant flat roof that unifies the internal zones, offering both solar shading and shelter to external spaces. Full-height glazing frames the private woodland views, bringing the beauty of nature inside while allowing abundant natural light to flood the home.
The material palette, chosen for its natural appeal, features elements that will age gracefully over time, helping the home to integrate with the surrounding woodland environment. The overall design successfully merges modern sustainable architecture with a deep respect for the landscape, creating a tranquil and contextually sensitive home that sits peacefully at the heart of Dorset’s open countryside.
