Commissioned by the Rushmore Estate, a private client dedicated to preserving the historic fabric of the site, the project set out to restore the estate’s iconic bell tower, which had succumbed to decades of deterioration. The brief called for the structure to be reconstructed with precision, reviving its historical character while ensuring the longevity of the new intervention.
The fragmented remains of the bell tower presented a compelling challenge: to piece together its historic elements and reimagine its lost grandeur. Inspired by the original carved arches and turned balusters, the design celebrated these remnants while weaving them into a coherent, revitalised form. Using a digital 3D model, the design was translated into precise fabrication instructions. Expertly crafted by Jamie Ross Furniture, the components were assembled with traditional joinery techniques, ensuring authenticity. Augmented Reality (AR) was employed during installation to align the new structure with the original framework, achieving unparalleled accuracy.
