Wicket Cottage

Contemporary Family Home set within a Wooded Site

DMW were approached by a private client with a vision to transform a derelict chalet bungalow into a thermally efficient and comfortable home for their growing family. The client sought a design that balanced modern architectural principles with the needs of family life, prioritising open spaces, natural light, and connections to the surrounding gardens.

The project draws upon Wimborne’s rich architectural narrative of traditional forms; the design respects this context, offering a modern interpretation whilst embracing the timeless charm of Dorset’s architectural vernacular. The central design philosophy was to create a home that is both striking and functional. By emphasising clean lines, open spaces, and a restrained material palette, the design achieves a balance between aesthetic appeal and residential comfort.

The new build approach allowed for efficient use of modern construction methods, optimising thermal performance and minimising environmental impact. The interior scheme featured concealed pocket doors and custom joinery which exemplified the precision and craftsmanship that underpinned the project.
