Keyneston Mill Cafe 3

Botanical Gardens Distillery & Visitor Centre

DMW Architects collaborated with Parterre Fragrances and Keyneston Mill on a project to develop a comprehensive master plan and landscape scheme at their 46-acre site in rural Dorset. The project involved the creation of a new distillery building, an art gallery building, and various residential conversions and extensions to Listed buildings.

The centrepiece of the project was the distillery building, known as the 'Long Barn', where botanic oils were distilled from organic crops to be refined into high-value perfumes. The prefabricated structure of the Long Barn was built off-site and erected in just two weeks. It also housed a restaurant, exhibition space, storage space along with public facilities.

As part of the project, DMW developed a 3D model of the extant water mill in the primary residence, a 19th-century listed mill building. Working with a historic specialist, plans were developed to restore the mill machinery.
